Perception

Prompt: Perception

People perceive things in many different ways. I think that the more a person informs oneself with information will help them perceive the information. So the more a person knows the more a person understands. For instance the war that the United States is fighting right now. If we as people would have more information on the war and what was the real reason we were fighting this war. Based on the lack of information that the federal government is giving out, we as people can only guess as to what is really going on. I feel that the more knowledge that one has gives them more insight.

I don't think that I have many biases myself. But there are several things that I have opinions on. So maybe they would be considered biases. I think that guys that wear braids should not wear them. To me that says thug. I don't think that employers that guys that come in for interviews seriously for the position that is being offered if that guy is wearing braids in his hair. It is already a stereotype of young African American males. I just think that after a certain age it's time to cut the braids out of your hair.

I don't consider my self to be bias nor do I consider myself to be prejudice. I guess this distorts my perception on many young males. Even though a guy wears his hair a certain way, the young man may be a well educated man. But his outside appearance says differently.

There are a lot of such things that happen in every day life where a person is prejudged. Who really knows if they are bias or not. People can be predijuce to a lot of things in many different ways and not even realize that they are that way. Who is to say what is really truth and what is not truth. If one knows themselves than who is to say if one really knows truth. Even when people have facts in hand they can still distort data into what they want to perceive it to be based on what they have read or observed.

Many people are taught what to preceive. As a person grows older their perceptions on certain things change. As a person attain knowledge as well as truth than they tend to broden their thinking and the way that they have perceived something. As one gets older one tends to become more open minded. With an open mind there is room for growth. So the perceptions that were taught to us at an early age can easily be replaced with truth and knoledge. By me thinking that a hair syle might prevent a guy from getting a job, I can also learn that the same hair style might be the one thing that defines that young man. Sometimes what we as people perceive as something that is bad may be something that someone else perceives as a statement.

Pass. You did not write a report on perception, you responded to the blog prompt. Whether we like it or not, we are all bias or prejudice to some extent. Being open-minded is the ability to ignore prejudices, but it does not mean they do not exist.
